Welcome to the reading of Philemon with In the Field Audio Bible.

00:00:12.144 --> 00:00:15.352
My name is Christie, your host for this episode.

00:00:15.352 --> 00:00:25.190
If you are wanting to see how God works in a person's life, then the Epistle of Paul to Philemon is definitely a good listen.

00:00:25.190 --> 00:00:36.374
It is a short one chapter, 25 verse letter, where Paul teaches and applies forgiveness and reconciliation with transformation and sacrifice.

00:00:36.374 --> 00:00:42.531
When we think about the word slavery, we may think about a physical person and his owner.

00:00:42.531 --> 00:00:52.390
However, even though this was the case in this letter, it actually was spiritual slavery that affected them even more.

00:00:52.390 --> 00:01:03.143
The Apostle Paul reminds us through his writing that the church has always advanced through the work and dedication of everyday people like you and me.

00:01:03.143 --> 00:01:10.135
He does this through his writings as he is held captive in a Roman jail awaiting his fate.

00:01:10.135 --> 00:01:23.668
It is this spiritual change from within that Paul teaches, proving God's desire to set us free, which, in the end, will release us from our own slavery of sin.

00:01:23.668 --> 00:01:28.135
End will release us from our own slavery of sin, and part of this release is experiencing God's love and forgiveness.

00:01:28.135 --> 00:01:33.808
If only we can find a way to forgive those who sin against us.

00:01:33.808 --> 00:01:40.191
Remember, forgiveness has no boundaries, only earthly limitations.

00:01:40.191 --> 00:01:50.993
Therefore, it is up to us to turn our earthly thoughts over to divine inspirations, those that are desired by God.

00:02:22.084 --> 00:02:24.370
I, Paul, am writing this letter.

00:02:24.370 --> 00:02:27.116
I am a prisoner, am writing this letter.

00:02:27.116 --> 00:02:30.377
I am a prisoner because of Christ Jesus.

00:02:30.377 --> 00:02:33.722
Our brother Timothy joins me in writing.

00:02:33.741 --> 00:02:35.764
Philemon, we are sending you this letter.

00:02:35.764 --> 00:02:38.006
You are our dear friend.

00:02:38.006 --> 00:02:40.367
You work together with us.

00:02:40.367 --> 00:02:45.252
We are also sending it to our sister, Epphea, and to Archippus.

00:02:45.252 --> 00:02:56.574
He is a soldier of Christ, together with us, and we are sending it to the church that meets in your home.

00:02:56.574 --> 00:03:01.603
May God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

00:03:01.603 --> 00:03:04.687
I always thank my God when I remember you in my prayers.

00:03:04.687 --> 00:03:08.954
That's because I hear about your love for all God's people.

00:03:08.954 --> 00:03:15.354
I also hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus.

00:03:15.354 --> 00:03:20.141
I pray that what we share by believing will help you understand even more.

00:03:20.141 --> 00:03:26.030
Then you will completely understand every good thing we share by believing in Christ.

00:03:26.030 --> 00:03:29.314
Your love has given me great joy.

00:03:29.314 --> 00:03:35.658
It has encouraged me.

00:03:35.658 --> 00:03:39.604
My brother, you have renewed the hearts of the Lord's people.

00:03:39.604 --> 00:03:44.742
Because of the authority Christ has given me, I could be bold.

00:03:44.742 --> 00:03:53.993
I could order you to do what you should do anyway, but we love each other and I would rather appeal to you on the basis of that love.

00:03:53.993 --> 00:03:58.403
I, Paul, am an old man.

00:03:58.403 --> 00:04:02.489
I am now also a prisoner because of Christ Jesus.

00:04:02.489 --> 00:04:06.032
I am an old man and I'm in prison.

00:04:06.032 --> 00:04:11.985
This is how I make my appeal to you for my son, Onesimus.

00:04:11.985 --> 00:04:16.454
He became a son to me while I was being held in chains.

00:04:16.454 --> 00:04:24.334
Before that he was useless to you, but now he has become useful to you and to me.

00:04:24.334 --> 00:04:26.100
But now he has become useful to you and to me.

00:04:26.100 --> 00:04:28.142
I'm sending Onesimus back to you.

00:04:28.142 --> 00:04:30.904
All my love for him goes with him.

00:04:32.005 --> 00:04:45.776
I'm being held in chains because of the good news, so I would have liked to keep Onesimus with me and he could take your place in helping me, but I didn't want to do anything unless you agreed.

00:04:45.776 --> 00:04:56.865
Any favor you do must be done because you want to do it, not because you have to.

00:04:56.865 --> 00:04:58.168
Onesimus was separated from you for a little while.

00:04:58.168 --> 00:04:59.310
Maybe that was so.

00:04:59.310 --> 00:05:01.596
You could have him back forever.

00:05:01.596 --> 00:05:05.687
You could have him back not as a slave.

00:05:05.687 --> 00:05:09.834
Instead, he would be better than a slave.

00:05:09.834 --> 00:05:11.862
He would be a dear brother.

00:05:11.862 --> 00:05:16.230
He is very dear to me, but even more dear to you.

00:05:16.230 --> 00:05:20.463
He is dear to you not only as another human being.

00:05:20.463 --> 00:05:24.189
He is also dear to you as a brother in the Lord.

00:05:24.189 --> 00:05:29.002
Do you think of me as a brother who works together with you?

00:05:29.002 --> 00:05:33.509
Then welcome Onesimus, as you would welcome me.

00:05:33.509 --> 00:05:36.420
Has he done anything wrong to you?

00:05:36.420 --> 00:05:38.182
Does he owe you anything?

00:05:38.182 --> 00:05:41.548
Then charge it to me, I'll pay it back.

00:05:42.971 --> 00:05:45.834
I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand.

00:05:45.834 --> 00:05:56.930
I won't even mention that you owe me your life, my brother, we both belong to the Lord, so I wish I could receive some benefit from you.

00:05:56.930 --> 00:05:59.067
Renew my heart.

00:05:59.067 --> 00:06:04.326
We know that Christ is the one who really renews it.

00:06:04.326 --> 00:06:08.372
I'm sure you will obey, so I'm writing to you.

00:06:08.372 --> 00:06:10.855
We know that Christ is the one who really renews it.

00:06:10.855 --> 00:06:12.617
I'm sure you will obey, so I'm writing to you.

00:06:12.617 --> 00:06:13.779
I know you will do even more than I ask.

00:06:13.779 --> 00:06:21.060
There's one more thing have a guest room ready for me.

00:06:21.060 --> 00:06:26.500
I hope I can return to all of you and answer to your prayers.

00:06:26.500 --> 00:06:29.322
Epaphras sends you greetings Together with me.

00:06:29.322 --> 00:06:30.603
He is a prisoner because of Christ Jesus.

00:06:30.603 --> 00:06:36.391
Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke work together with me.

00:06:36.391 --> 00:06:39.000
They also send you greetings.

00:06:39.000 --> 00:06:44.762
May the grace of the Lord, Jesus Christ, be with your spirit.
